How to Find Your Passion: Q and A with Barrie Davenport

During the last 25 years, we’ve certified over 110,000 professionals. To celebrate our 25th year in business, we’re selecting 25 grads to showcase this year. Meet our next featured grad, Michelle Romero, an AFPA Certified Prenatal and Postpartum Fitness Specialist.

Tell us a little bit about your story. How did your interest and passion for this field begin?

I have always had a passion for fitness. When I found out I was pregnant with my third baby, I decided it was time to pay it forward and help other pregnant moms stay healthy and fit. So I decided to get prenatal and postpartum certified to create my own workouts and help other moms.

What made you particularly interested in the certification that you chose?

I have always had fit pregnancies and I knew that once I got certified I could help other moms stay fit and help them with labor.

Why did you choose AFPA as your certifying organization?

I was referred by a friend.

What was the certification process like for you?

It was nice to be able to do everything on my own time and in my own home.

What was your favorite part about the program? Why?

The books that were sent me to study. I can now use them for references.

Where were you in your health/fitness career prior to receiving your certification?

I have always had a passion for fitness but have never been certified. I am now able to help others!

What do you do now?

I created my own fitness workouts and have them on my website. I help pregnant moms with these workouts online.

What are your career goals going forward?

My goal is to create my own app geared towards pre/postantal clients and give them guidance.

What does a typical day look like for you now?

I struggle with promoting my business and gaining my own clients but I spend each day looking for moms that need help, through social media, and am now creating postpartum workouts.

Would you recommend AFPA to others?

Absolutely.
